Competition guidelines:
  • All high school level chamber ensembles of no more than eight players
    are invited to participate.  
  • Performances must be without a conductor.  
  • Any instrumentation which includes a minimum of two brass players is
    acceptable
  • Repertoire is the performers’ choice, but must include a minimum of 6
    minutes of music
  • UIL Class I and II ensembles are acceptable, as well comparable
    chamber music pieces not included on the UIL lists
  • Preliminary round (by recording) will take place prior to April 20, 2011
  • Three ensembles will be chosen to perform in the final round of
    competition on April 29, 2011 as a part of the SJCC Brass Symposium
  • All finalists will receive free admission to all events at the SJCC Brass
    Symposium.
  • The winning ensemble will be featured in a master class with Jan
    Kagarice, Professor of Trombone, The University of North Texas, and in
    recital with the SJCC Brass Choir, Allen Vizzutti, David Kirk, and Thomas
    Bacon.  Both events will take place on April 30, 2011.  
  • The winning ensemble will receive a cash award in the amount of
    $50.00 per performer.
  • The entry fee per ensemble is $20.00 per performer.  
  • Recordings, application, and entry fees must be received no later than
    April 15, 2011

Recording guidelines:
  • All recordings should be submitted in a compact disc format (playable
    on standard CD players), DVD/video, or MP3 (via email)
  • Recordings should NOT contain any verbal announcements of any kind
  • Recordings should be labeled with the name of the group and/or
    performers
  • Recordings must be live (with or without audience) and should not be
    edited in any way
  • Recordings must contain a minimum of six minutes of music
  • Recordings must be made by the same players who will perform in the
    competition finals
